The Vedic Truth and Sri Ramkrishna as a Hindu
18. Sri
Ramkrishna says: – “Yes, a book named ‘Ashtavakra Samhita’ contents deal with
the knowledge of the self. Thus a man of knowledge of the self given out – ‘I
am He’, that is, ‘Paramatma’. This principle is followed by the ‘Sannyasins’ of
the Vedanta school. But it is never a right path or corrupt principle to be followed
by the house-holder”.
Ashtavakra Samhita is a
treatise of self-knowledge or Atmajnana. It is meant for one and all. It is
written with the sole purpose of conveying the true knowledge of the Self to
the humanity so that they may have the true light and may be enlightened. They
may conduct themselves in accordance with the principle of the book and come to
know that they are Brahma and one. It deals only with individualism.
Sri Ramkrishna urges
vehemently that this book is meant solely for the Sannyasins and not for the
common people. Let the householders and common people follow the path of
dualism and remain in darkness forever. This distinction between a Sannyasin
and householder was declared as false and was openly denounced within a short time
after the disappearance of Sri Ramkrishna from this world, in a public lecture
in America by Swami Vivekananda. He addressed the Americans as “Thou art That”.
It means “Man is Brahma”. No distinction exists between aSannyasin (monk) and a
householder. Brahmahood belongs to every man.
Lord Buddha, Lord Gouranga
and Sri Ramkrishna and amongst all the religious reformers of India brought
about this distinction between a monk and a commoner and it was advocated,
introduced and followed very rigidly creating a band of aristocrats in the eye
of man and God alike in the realm of oneness. In a nutshell, the injunction was
that the common people would serve these ‘Sannyasins’, ‘Shramanas’, and
‘Vairagis’ (monk of the Vaishnava sect), themselves remaining in darkness as
ignoramuses.
It transpires that what Sri
Ramkrishna advocates, Swami Vivekananda denounces.
(ii) The Vedic revelation
rests with the principle that he whom nature selects as its own is endowed with
this “Para Vidya” and through him this wonderful “Oneness” is distributed
through the agency of five elements as it is nature’s creation and a natural
demand of the humanity to be united into “One” while alive and thus to make
‘One World’ in the Atmic Sphere. Nature demands it and nature creates it.
